Negril peace march postponed again due to police reassignment
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – For the second time since the start of the year, a peace march planned for the Negril area by the Westmoreland Divisional Neighborhood Watch in collaboration with the Negril Chamber of Commerce has been postponed.
The first march was scheduled for March but was then rescheduled for today. However, similar to the first planned activity, Thursday’s march was postponed due to partial support from the police despite the presence of Zone Four Commander for Little London and Negril deputy superintendent of police Shaunjaye Mitchell.
However, the police said they were reassigned to another activity which resulted in them being delayed.
Community members, the chamber of commerce and representatives from various hotels -such as Sandals, Beaches and Couples Swept Away – who all participated in an earlier town cleanup, were on hand to give support.
The March was aimed at spreading peace to mostly the young in areas that have seen an uptick in crime and to bring awareness to the presence of the Neighborhood Council in the parish which the public is welcome to join.
