A new strain of citrus canker was found in Florida.

Agriculture inspectors confirmed finding a second type of canker in Gainesville and said it is a variation of a strain commonly found in Asia. The canker was discovered on lime trees grown by the owner of an Oriental restaurant who was using the leaves as a seasoning. The danger of the new strain spreading through Florida’s citrus belt is minimal because the trees were 40 miles north of the state’s main growing areas, the USDA said.
